Plum Blossom Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Bamboo Rock Ink Wash

In the hands behind this plum blossom scroll painting, the bamboo rock ink wash theme becomes a meditation. Silk takes the ink with a particular softness, and this piece uses it well. As a piece of traditional chinese wall art, it reads clearly from across the room and keeps giving on closer inspection.

The discipline of wash painting shows in every controlled gradation. The rock is modeled with textured strokes, pitted and convincing. The bamboo leaves are painted in the classic fish-tail manner. The composition asks for wall space the way a good sentence asks for silence around it. Light seems to move through the scene even though nothing moves.

Hung in a study or living room, this elegant chinese wall scroll changes the room's temperature without raising its voice. Over time it becomes less a decoration and more a presence in the room. It arrives ready to hang and settles in quickly.
