Flower and Bird Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Cats Butterfly

Across the silk of this flower and bird scroll painting, the cats butterfly theme plays out in classical tones. Washed color and line work together here, neither one crowding the other out. Among pieces of traditional chinese wall art, this is the quiet kind: balanced, calm, and easy to live with.

The cats motif is worked into the composition with classical restraint. In the middle distance, the peony anchors the painting's sense of place. The meticulous gongbi technique shows in every controlled outline and flat wash of color. The butterfly settles naturally into the scene, balanced against the larger forms. A prominent rock gives the picture its center of gravity. A restrained hand and a full heart: the classical combination.

As timeless asian wall art, it asks for nothing more than a good wall and soft light. A piece like this asks little and gives back steadily. Give it wall space and it will repay the attention.
